Help Carefree use creative writing to boost self-esteem, literacy skills and achievement rates for young people in care, Cornwall, UK.

Many of the young people in care that Carefree has worked with over the last two years have been bright and full of enthusiasm for life - but they have missed out learning, or changed school so frequently that their reading and writing skills do not reflect their ability.

£525 will pay for a creative artist to work with 10 – 15 young people who have experienced being in care and have been disadvantaged in terms of their education to develop creative writing skills, raise confidence & self-esteem, have fun in a creative way and gain an accredited award. This helps young people create a positive narrative for their futures.

In 2006, only 14% of children and young people in care gained a GCSE A-C, compared with 58% of all young people. 

Over 30% of care leavers are not in education, employment or training at the age of 19, compared to just 13% of all young people.
So it’s crystal clear how vital fun learning is to young people in care – please help us give these Cornish young people a real boost in study confidence!
