 Blowing Kisses At Newquay Zoo!  | The Pangolin project has been assigned a vet from Australia for 2 years and they desperately need a general Veterinary Kit: to include a stethoscope, scissors, forceps, tweezers and magnifier, sutures box, syringes, disposable gloves, stretch bandages, assorted plasters and bandage dressings.  | |||
In July 2005, Stewart Muir, Assistant Director of Newquay Zoo, travelled to Cambodia to meet various conservation workers and visit rescue centres. This was to launch a new project in Asia for the rescue and study of the Pangolin (or Scaly Anteater). Pangolins are nocturnal and remain in their burrows during the day. Sadly, thousands of these inoffensive animals are being slaughtered to supply body parts and meat to China. Highly adapted to a diet of termites, they rarely live long enough to be released back into the wild when seized from this illegal trade. Newquay Zoo supports this much needed project: by pooling expertise from many sources they research their dietary needs and highlight this conservation crisis.
